What is your opinion about security cameras in public places?

Many people don't like the fact that the United States government installs security cameras in public places calling it invasion of privacy. What is your opinion on this subject?

1. If you are in public, you have no legal guarantee of privacy.
2. I believe the people who state that it is an invasion of privacy does NOT know anything about the law at all! Come on....you are in the PUBLIC view! How is that privacy when EVERYONE can see what you are doing!?
3. I agree to having cameras in public places. It's a good deterrent against crime and a valuable aid in solving crimes. The ones that are most avidly against it are those that tend to break or bend the law themselves, like running a red light, speeding, etc. However, if they happen to be the victim, they're the first to yell about there not being any cameras around to help them. And for those who call it an invasion of privacy, look up the meanings of the words public and private. I think you'll find that the definitions of these two words don't match up.
4. I always give them the finger and smile. I'm sure that this will become 150.00 dollar fine for city revenue. Just as the tickets you receive in the mail for speeding. what a damn scam! Surveillance is necessary for security But sense yhe Patriot Laws it's become Big Brotherism. Consider this,i've heard of persons getting tickets for jay walking from cameras.I stood at the court house and watched dozens of cops and court officials doing the same.Do you think they were ticketed?You or your child can be ticketed for accidentally dropping a gum wrapper,littering; Perhaps your smoking in a non designated area,etc, etc.; All revenue
5. If you are not doing anything wrong... you have nothing to hide. Even though we had security cameras that caught the 9/11 hijackers on camera... that did not stop them in the end... so just cause there are cameras there doesn't mean people are actually paying attention. I think that cameras should be where they are needed and they should be watched 24/7 all the time, otherwise they serve no purpose.
